Overview

Hjo Camping, a local campsite, wanted a digital companion for their guests — a single app to handle bookings, gate access, and everyday information during a stay. As project leader, I was responsible for client communication, UX research, and the overall design direction, and also contributed as a frontend developer alongside another developer who handled the rest of the implementation.

Challenge

Guests previously had to stop by reception to pick up keys, codes, and basic information about their stay — creating queues and extra admin work for staff, especially during peak season. The challenge was to design a mobile-first alternative that felt just as reliable: something that could replace physical keys with a digital SALTO-based lock system, surface real-time booking details, and guide guests through everything from check-in to checkout, without ever needing to visit the front desk.

The Process

The project started with mapping out the full guest journey, from booking confirmation to checkout, together with Hjo Camping's staff, to identify where digital self-service could remove the most friction.

From there, I built wireframes and prototypes in Figma, iterating on the check-in flow in particular, since it needed to feel instant and trustworthy despite relying on a physical lock system (SALTO) reacting to a tap of the phone.

Throughout the project, I acted as the main point of contact between the client and the development team, translating feedback into design changes and making sure the final build matched the agreed scope. On the build itself, I worked in VS Code alongside the other developer, building out parts of the frontend.
